Fridge Rules
While most of these rules are common sense or common courtesy, each member of the fridge co-op is expected to
follow them. The rules are not demanding, and if you are unwilling or unable to follow them, just see
Mr. Fridge to close your account. Remember, this is a co-op, not a country club.
Your Account Balance
-
You must keep your fridge account “in the black”, i.e. with positive balance. The fridge room
works on a debit system, not a credit system, so you must pay for your purchases in advance. Each week a
Delinquent List is posted that lists everyone in debt by $5 or more. If you are on this list, make a
payment immediately. If you maintain debt for seven weeks, or if your debt exceeds $10 your account will be closed.
Theft
-
Take reasonable precautions to prevent theft and loss. Do not leave fridge room doors open or unlocked. You
must correctly record every item that you take from the fridge room on your account. Any item that is swiped
or not recorded may contribute to the quick demise of the fridge co-op.
Cleanliness
-
Keep the fridge room, refrigerators, and microwaves clean. At the very least, clean up the messes that you
make. If you have a few seconds, straighten, wipe, or dust. While the housekeeping staff takes out the trash
and mops the floor for us, it is not their job to clean up your mess.
Personal Food
-
Personal items stored in the refrigerator must be labeled with your name and a reasonable expiration date.
Items not so labeled are considered “free food” and are fair game to be eaten or thrown away. We
do not want any science fair experiments in the fridge, so please remove your old food on a regular basis.
Sodas
-
When you take a drink from the cooler, replace the cold drink that you took with a warm one. This takes very
little effort and remember--you don't like drinking a warm soda any more than anyone else does.
